I am a queer, non-binary social worker who is trauma-informed. I have lived experience as a neurodiverse person, spoonie, and a trauma survivor. I am trained in emotion-focused therapy, narrative therapy, motivational interviewing, DBT, CBT, EMDR, and Unyte-iLsās SSP and Focus (that is based upon Polyvagal theory), and uses various tools from many other modalities as well. I prioritize working with the following communities: Indigenous, Two-Spirit, LGBTQIAP+/Queer community, trans community, and non-monogamous/polyamorous community. It is important for me that before working with someone, they feel it is a perfect fit or as close to a perfect fit as possible. Previous to ever recommending a treatment to someone, I will often experience this modality myself first to get an idea of what the experience can look or feel like.
You can reach out to me through email at aden@healingjourneycounselling.ca if you want a consultation or session outside of what is available in the online booking system.

Hi there, Iām Lara (they/them)!
Iām a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (#20945), Professional Art Therapist, and Expressive Arts Therapist. I offer a practice woven from the intersections of my identity as a white settler, Non-Binary, Queer, Mad, and Autistic artist-activist, with lived experience as a Spoonie and trauma survivor. Practicing under clinical supervision, I hold a Masterās level dual diploma in Art Therapy and Expressive Arts Therapy from WHEAT Institute, a BFA in Film from NSCAD University, and have completed Psychology studies at Athabasca and Dalhousie Universities. My professional history spanning victim services, public education, and supportive counselling supports my dedication to a systems approach and social justice lens.
Navigating this lived experience, I recognize that the survival pressures to conform and camouflage can often lead to feelings of exhaustion, isolation, or disconnection from self, relationships, community, and land. I offer a warm, supportive presence where curiosity and a sense of humour are always welcome. My approach is Trauma-Informed and Strength-Based, integrating a systems view to understand how broader social conditions impact your well-being. I work eclectically, drawing from Experiential, Somatic, and Compassion-Focused modalities to tailor our sessions. This might involve processing emotions in the here-and-now, building grounding skills, or integrating creative tools when words feel limited. However we choose to work, my goal is to help you cultivate inner resources and move toward authentic embodiment.
I welcome children (8+), youth, adults, and seniors to collaborate in this work. Support is provided in English through online sessions, requiring no artistic skill or expensive supplies. You are worthy of care, connection, and a judgment-free space to unmask, create, and be your authentic self.
Are you:
Seeking support that is truly neurodiversity-affirming and grounded in shared lived experience?
Looking to process your identity in a safer, queer-affirming therapy space?
Struggling with burnout or the exhaustion of surviving ableist systems?
Feeling the heavy pressure to mask, conform, or perform perfectionism?
Needing a space that honours your chronic illness and bodyās capacity?
Curious to explore how creativity can support your wellness, without expectation of previous artistic skill?
Specific foci include:
Neurodivergence & Unmasking (Autism, ADHD, AuDHD, Burnout)

I am a queer, neurodivergent, polyamorous, feminist, and cisgender white woman. I am committed to anti-oppression, social justice, and the self-reflection and lifelong unlearning this requires.
I have been practicing social work since 2012 with a focus on issues related to queer and trans folks, body neutrality, harm reduction, and body-based trauma recovery modalities. While I use an eclectic range of intervention, I am formally trained in EMDR, Brainspotting, DBT, Narrative Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.
I aim to position myself as a co-collaborator in your journey and will follow your lead. Using a feminist power-sharing framework, I believe that the therapeutic alliance and a genuine, authentic caring and attuned relationship is the foundational element of successful therapy, and so I will work hard to earn your trust and build that alliance with you.
I am most excited about working with queer and trans folks, neurodiverse folks, non-monogamous folks, and those looking to utilize EMDR for trauma recovery.
